AUSTIN, Texas -- a href="http://www.freescale.com/">Freescale Semiconductor is holding design contests worldwide, seeking the greenest embedded systems designs.

The regional Freescale Technology Forum Design Challenges are looking for sustainable embedded systems, which are computer systems that handle one or more tasks and can be part of almost anything with electronics, from PDAs and video game systems to appliances and cars.

Designs are being judged on overall innovation to improve the environment, creativity, design efficiency, technical complexity and amount of Freescale devices used.

Design Challenges are being held in the Americas, Japan, Europe, China and India. The 10 finalists from the Americas challenge have already been announced, and registration for the Japan and Europe contests was recently opened.

Each of the finalists from the Americas competition received $1,000 to help them develop prototypes of their designs for final judging in June. The first place winner, along with the other regional first place competitors, will receive $10,000 and go on to the Grand Freescale Technology Forum Design Challenge, where they will compete for $50,000.
