DALLAS, Texas -- AT&T announced yesterday that its AT&T Services affiliate had joined the Green Grid, a nonprofit consortium of technology leaders, to help achieve the group's goal of improving data center energy efficiency and business computing.
As part of its membership, AT&T will also take part in the EPA's pilot study on developing an Energy Star rating for data centers by supplying performance information about its data center performance to the EPA.
"Managing the energy we use in an efficient way is crucial to staying competitive -- a commitment that begins in our corporate headquarters and extends throughout our global operations," said Chris Rice, an executive vice president at AT&T. "Joining The Green Grid and collaborating with the EPA reflects this commitment, and we look forward to collaborating with our industry peers to promote more sustainable IT energy efficiency practices."
The Green Grid, which was launched in early 2007, now includes almost 200 members across industries and from around the world. The group is committed to sharing research and best practices on various technologies that companies can use to green their IT and boost their data centers' efficiency.
AT&T said it will bring its five key strategies for data center efficiency to the Green Grid: data center consolidation, optimization, application rationalization, supplier/partner integration, and industry-government collaboration.
