THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Nexsan Corp. added to its line-up of energy efficient storage products aimed at small- and medium-sized businesses.
The company touted this week the availability of the Edge, a high-density Network Attached Storage (NAS) product with an annual failure rate of less than 1 percent. The product is designed for high-capacity applications including healthcare and rich media.
Users can connect with Nexsan SAS and SATA-based storage, as well as file services CIFS and NFS. Standard features include the AutoMAID energy efficiency. The Edge uses three levels of energy efficiency for storage disk drives that can be configured by the user, rather than through an on or off mechanism. It can store more than twice the density of comparable units: 84TB in 9U. Microsoft's Windows Unified Data Stoage Server technology comes with the Edge.
The news follows last month's announcement of the DATABeast, a high-density storage product geared toward the small and medium-sized enterprises. It stores 336BTU in 42U, and is aimed at high-data applications, such as scientific computing and financial services.
In early August, Nexsan signed an agreement to provide energy efficient storage to GE Healthcare IT for the purpose of processing and storing images in medical facilities.
