PORTLAND, Ore. -- Green electronics got a boost today as the Green Electronics Council, the group behind the EPEAT computer rating system, announced a new partnership with computer resellers aimed at spreading energy efficient and environmentally friendly computer systems to an even wider audience.
Members who join the EPEAT Reseller Partner Program receive sales force training on EPEAT products, as well as logos and collateral to identify themselves as official resellers for EPEAT products. Among the companies to already join the Reseller Partner Program are buy.com, Zones, Softchoice and ASI System Integration.
EPEAT, which launched in July of 2006, has already seen booming growth. This past summer, the Green Electronics Council announced that more than 109 million EPEAT-certified products were sold in 2007 alone. At least 27 manufacturers are creating products to meet the certification, and more than 590 products bear the EPEAT seal.
Among the big drivers of EPEAT's rapid growth is the federal government, which in January 2008 required EPEAT purchases for three major departments: NASA, the Department of Defense, and the General Services Administration.
Every month, it seems that manufacturers are adding new EPEAT products to their lineups, with some of the most recent covered on GreenerComputing including Hewlett Packard, Dell, and Lenovo.
