The Consortium for Energy Efficiency advances super energy-efficient technologies that benefit consumers and the environment. The consortium has brought high-efficiency products into the marketplace for cooling, lighting, refrigeration, washing, and heating. Members of the consortium include electric and gas utilities, public-interest groups, state research and development offices, and state energy offices. CEE encourages utilities and other partners to pool their market influence by voluntarily adopting common programs and efficiency specifications. Initiatives begun through this market influence include: super-efficient, apartment-sized refrigerators, high-efficiency clothes washers, and super-efficiency home appliances. CEE's commercial activities include national initiatives for clothes washers and HVAC as well as research into programs for gas boilers and building optimization. CEE's efforts in the commercial sector involve working with members to increase awareness and demand for energy-efficient products and services. At the same time, CEE encourages manufacturers to produce appliances and equipment that meet high-efficiency specifications. CEE's industrial programs include three initiatives (motors, motor systems and transformers) as well as supporting activities (Compressed Air Challenge, Steam Challenge). .
