The Toxics in Packing Clearinghouse was developed in response to legislation to reduce the amount of heavy metals in packaging and packaging components that are sold or distributed throughout the United States. The law is designed to phase out the use and presence of mercury, lead, cadmium and hexavalent chromium in packaging within four years in states that enact the legislation.

This site provides information on the legislation and the states which have already adopted it. Links lead to fact sheets about the targeted metals, types of packaging, exemptions and compliance issues.
